A very happy new year from myself and the family Peet! Wow, what a year it’s been for Robert Peet Photography! Awesome couples, great venues, everyone had an absolute blast, especially me!
So then, if you’d like to watch my 2018 roundup video, turn the volume up and hit fullscreen! It’s only a minute or so long (If videos aren’t your thing, just scroll down to some still photos below). It was really difficult picking a select few photos from the thousands I’d shot this year, so I decided to give myself a theme – ‘humanity’. The majority of the photos included in the video convey human nature – the funny, silly, daft, emotional, quirky – all those wonderful characteristics that make us the beautiful humans we are! There’s also a fair few dance floor photos in there too. I won’t lie, I do enjoy taking those!
Of course, I also take the kind of photos you’d usually associate with a wedding – bridal prep, the rings, the dress, formal family photos, and a few couple portraits etc etc– but it’s the real moments that define your wedding, make it unique to you, and distinguish it from anyone else’s and that’s why I make capturing these my priority.
Personally, there was one very big event which defined 2018, and that was the birth of my beautiful son Owen in April. Becoming a father really is a life changing experience and it’s affected me in so many wonderful ways, including doubling my passion for photography. Documenting the O-Man’s little adventures captures great memories for our family and helps me constantly improve my technique. I now run ‘Dad-Tuesdays’ on Instagram, where I post a photo from our personal life, because……well, why not? I’m very proud of our little man!
Professionally, a key event for me was joining Photographers Keeping It Real, a community of wedding photographers dedicated to documentary style. We share photos and enter friendly competitions. You know what they say: you are the company you keep! And being part of this group has really benefitted my professional development.
2019 is set to be another great year and there might also be some big changes and events on the horizon. For starters, I’m strongly considering changing the name of my business. I’m very proud of my surname, but alas, ‘Peet’ is a little difficult to remember: it’s short, sounds likes a first name, and has a strange spelling. When I say it to people I often have to repeat it several times and that’s not so great for marketing. If you return to my website in a few months’ time and I’m calling myself ‘Ace Rimmer Photography’ then don’t be too surprised (……That’s a Red Dwarf reference, sorry).
I’m also hoping to enter some awards towards the end of 2019. In truth, I intended to enter a few last year however, I was so busy at the end of the wedding season with editing and what not – my clients come first before anything else – that the plan just fell by the wayside. But hopefully by the end of 2019 I’ll be able to show off a few sparkly achievements!
So then, once again, I wish you all a very happy new year. Here’s to a fun and prosperous 2019 for us all!
