Being Buxton wedding photographer has it’s perks! It meant I was able to take a few photographs at my friend, Laura’s birthday party at the Old Hall Hotel. One of Buxton’s most popular places to stay, this lush wedding venue is reputed to be the oldest hotel in England. With history dating back thousands of years, the hotel has been host to several noteworthy guests including Mary Queen of Scots! It is the ideal location for a wedding, being situated near the picturesque Pavilion Gardens and Buxton Opera House.
So my friend Laura hit a milestone – I feel it impolite to tell you her age – and decided to throw a party to celebrate. It was a great idea and my wife and I drove over to the Old Hall in Buxton where Laura and her fiancée had hired out a room for the party. I won’t lie, it was pretty exciting for us both that we had a night off from parenting!
When we arrived the party was already in full swing. Our birthday girl had hired a pretty cool DJ who was churning our some house classics and getting everyone on the dance floor. There was more alcohol than I’ve seen in a while (except when I’m photographing a wedding, where I generally see quite a lot). Three pints was all it took for me to be breaking out some moves like everyone else. I couldn’t help but take a camera along, so that Laura could have some natural photography of her party. Laura is a former workmate of mine from a time so long ago, it feels like a different life. I was happily surprised to see that she had also stayed in contact with a few of her other colleagues from the same time, so I was able to have a good old catch up with some old friends.
The way I shot Laura’s party was pretty much exactly the same as I photograph a wedding. I let everyone have an absolute blast, and documented the moments to give the bride and groom great memories. In this case it was lots of people dancing, all night long! A very happy birthday and congratulations to Laura! I had a lot of fun pretending to be your Buxton wedding photographer!
