As you perhaps already know I’m a Prestwich wedding photographer living in…well…Prestwich. This is a great location from which I can conveniently provide wedding photography coverage in Manchester, Leeds and surrounding areas. Another additional perk of living here is the variety of community activities that happen virtually on our doorstep, such as the annual Prestwich Carnival.
We were very lucky this year that the carnival past right outside our house. It’s the first time they have taken a route that use our road. All our neighbours turned out to watch the carnival go past, and it was so much fun it made me wonder if there has ever been a wedding involving a carnival. Imagine the bride and groom atop a float being driven around the area while onlookers admired from the streets!
There were a variety of organisations that passed us as we watched: A whole load of dance troops, army vehicles with child prisoners, a Marvel Avengers van, and an old feller who serenaded the crowd with his massive trumpet! Alas, my son slept through the whole lot!
Once my son had woken up we wandered down to St Mary’s Park where the procession had ended. A music stage had been set up, along with a load of stores providing food and refreshments, not to mention the large fairground. We didn’t go any rides though, Owen’s still a bit too little I’m afraid. I wonder if anyone has ever got married nearby St Mary’s Park and had their reception there? Seeing as it’s such a popular location for festivals.
Owen was enthralled, although you wouldn’t tell from looking at the photos! I suppose it’s all a little overwhelming for 15 month old baby, all the strange and new sights, sounds, and smells. The first spectacle we witnessed were the Gay Gordons, with their impressive Scottish Country dancing. It looks good exercise, but just like when I’m shooting weddings, I’ll leave the dancing to the pros (or the wedding guests!).
My wife soon started craving an ice cream, so once her appetite was satiated, we went into one of the larger tents, ran by Viper and Vine Reptile and Bird Specialist, and let me son meet a few animals. He was particularly taken with one of the large rabbit breeds which left him in giggles for reasons we didn’t quite understand. We then went back outside, sat down and just enjoyed the atmosphere while Owen had a quick feed. Finally, while my wife and I enjoyed a Michael Jackson tribute act, my son took great pleasure in toying with one of our used coffee cups. When we’re at home he takes much greater pleasure in playing with his toy boxes than the toys inside, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.
Are you planning to tie the knot in Prestwich? There are several wedding and reception venues you might want to consider including Fairways Lodge, Church of St Mary the Virgin, Prestwich Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club, and the Longfield Suite.
